St Paul, MN APWU

Former President Jim Bryan passed away May 2, 2018. Jim started with the Postal Service as a Railway Mail Clerk.  When mail on the trains was discontinued, he came back to his home town of St Paul and worked at the St Paul Post Office.  He became a steward, and eventually President of the St Pauil Area Local in 1972 when the unions merged.  He was president of the local for 10 years.

He was active in the St Paul Trades and Labor Assembly, which brought him to the attention of city government. He was active with the St Paul City Council, serving on the Zoning Committee as Chair for the East Side.  Mayor Latimer appointed him to various committees, including the planning committee for the I-35 route through St. Paul

He was elected to Board of Directors of the Postal Workers Credit Union (now Ideal Credit Union) in 1971 and served for 45 years.  He believed strongly in the credit union movement. And was inducted to the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in Washington. DC for his service.

Jim was also a common sight at the Minnesota State Fair, serving as a ticket taker for 50 years, ending as the Captain of the Randall gate.

Jim was happily married to Elaine for 72 years, and they travelled extensively.  They have one daughter, Jo, and two grandsons, and a great-granddaughter.

This Local owes him a debt of gratitude and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him  for his boundless energy and dedication.
